Fredi Chiappelli Memorial Fellowship

Applications are now being accepted for the 2025-26 fellowship.

The Fredi Chiappelli Memorial Fellowship is awarded to an outstanding UCLA graduate student from any academic discipline whose research focuses on any aspect of Italian Studies between the third and the seventeenth century C.E. The fellowship, named in honor of former CMRS director Fredi Chiappelli, provides $30,000. Funding for student fees and other expenses must be provided by the recipient’s academic department or other sources. The Chiappelli fellowship is offered whenever sufficient funding is available from the endowment that supports the fellowship.

The application should include:

  • Cover letter
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Maximum five-page (single spaced) research proposal describing the project
  • Three letters of recommendation from faculty or other scholars familiar with the applicant’s work; one of these letters should be from the applicant’s dissertation advisor, if advanced to PhD candidacy.
