Mellon Foundation Grant

Congratulations to our director, Zrinka Stahuljak, as she and Professor Shannon Speed (Director of UCLA American Indian Studies Center) have received a $1 million grant from the Mellon Foundation to support their project called “Race in the Global Past through Native Lenses.” Serving as the grant’s Principal Investigator, Zrinka aims the project to align with the Mellon Foundation’s mission – to build just communities enriched by meaning and empowered by critical thinking. The project’s goals include elevating Native American, Pacific Islander and other Indigenous scholarship on historical articulations of “race” and “Indigeneity” across the globe, and supporting efforts to recruit and retain Indigenous faculty at UCLA. For more details about this ambitious project, please read the bulletin posted on the UCLA Newsroom website.
