Lynn and Maude White Fellowship

The Lynn and Maude White Fellowship is awarded to an outstanding UCLA graduate student in Medieval and Renaissance Studies who has advanced to PhD candidacy. Established in 1988 and named for its donors, the Center’s founding director Professor Lynn White and his wife Maude, the fellowship provides a $20,000 stipend to support dissertation research. Funding for student fees and other expenses must be provided by the recipient’s academic department or other sources. The student is expected to engage in full-time dissertation research and writing during the fellowship year.

The next Lynn and Maude White Fellowship will be offered for 2020-21.

Students interested in applying for the fellowship must submit:

  • a cover letter applying for the Lynn and Maude White Fellowship;
  • a curriculum vitae (CV);
  • a five-page research proposal outlining the applicant’s dissertation project;
  • three letters of recommendation from faculty or scholars familiar with the applicant’s work, one of which should be from the applicant’s dissertation adviser.
