Lynn and Maude White Fellowship

Applications are open for the 2026–27 fellowship.

The Lynn and Maude White Fellowship, which provides $30,000, is awarded to an outstanding UCLA graduate student who has advanced to PhD candidacy. The fellowship supports dissertation research in any aspect of medieval or Renaissance studies. The fellowship was established in 1988 and named for its donors, the Center’s founding director, Professor Lynn White Jr., and his wife, Maude.

Funding for student fees and other expenses must be provided by the recipient’s academic department or other sources.

The application should include:

  • Cover letter
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Maximum five-page (single-spaced) description of the dissertation project
  • Three letters of recommendation from faculty or other scholars familiar with the applicant’s work; one of these letters should be from the applicant’s dissertation advisor

Recipients of CMRS-CEGS Lynn and Maude White Fellowships are expected to participate in Center activities, including attending CMRS-CEGS–sponsored events and taking part in a graduate-focused engagement event featuring presentations on their research and related professional experiences.
