CMRS-CEGS Graduate Student Summer Awards
Applications are now being accepted for Summer 2025 Awards.
CMRS-CEGS Graduate Student Summer Awards provide up to $8,000 to support research/writing, study, or training in any area of global studies from 300 to 1600 CE. This includes activities such as language study, archival/library research, dissertation writing, paleography training, unpaid archaeological work, unpaid internships in museums, libraries or digital projects in CMRS-CEGS related disciplines, as well as the costs of housing and other living expenses while pursuing those activities.
Eligibility: The award is open to UCLA graduate students who are working in the areas of late antique, Byzantine, medieval, Renaissance, or early modern (prior to 1600) global studies.
Restrictions: Students may NOT have another form of summer 2025 support of more than $5,000. If you have already secured other funding in excess of $5,000, but still need additional support, please disclose it in your letter of interest and justify why you need additional funding.
The application should consist of:
- A letter of interest including:

- Description of your research project or study in the area of late antique, Byzantine, medieval, Renaissance, or early modern (prior to 1600) global studies that you plan to work on during the summer of 2025. Maximum 300 words.
- List of any other sources of support you have applied for, or have already been awarded, for the summer 2025. Justify what expenses you have in excess of the support already received.
- Your budget for summer 2025. Include housing and living expenses as well as expenses related to research and study.
- A copy of your current CV.
- A letter of recommendation from your dissertation advisor or faculty mentor in support of your summer research or study plan.
