We were saddened to hear the news that Michael J.B. Allen passed away on Saturday, February 25. Professor Allen was Director of the UCLA Center for Medieval & Renaissance Studies from 1988-1993. Prior to that, he had served as Assistant Director, then Associate Director of CMRS for many years. Indeed, he was actively involved in the Center and its activities since he joined the UCLA English Department’s faculty in 1970. He organized conferences, served on committees, mentored students, and inspired the Center’s publications both as an author and editor. The Center’s faculty, students, associates, staff and friends have greatly benefited from the wisdom and expertise that Professor Allen so generously shared with all. His love of knowledge, enthusiasm, and joie de vivre were inspiring and contagious.
We are fortunate to have known Michael. He will be sorely missed.
