POSITION DESCRIPTION
The UCLA CMRS Center for Early Global Studies and UCLA American Indian Studies Center in partnership with the Mellon Foundation are pleased to announce two postdoctoral fellow positions in the UCLA Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellows program for a recent Ph.D. whose work focuses on issues of race and racialization in Indigenous contexts during the “pre-colonial/early colonial” period.
The position is for 2 years, beginning July 1, 2024. Minimum requirements: Ph.D. in hand by time of appointment; a research agenda that aligns with the “Race in the Global Past through Native Lenses” project themes and premodern focus; and the ability to work collaboratively with cohorts composed of Native American and Indigenous community scholars-in-residence, UCLA faculty and students, and Museum and other Cal-NAGPRA staff. Fellows are expected to be in residence for the duration of the fellowship period and to maintain active research and publication programs. Preferred qualifications: we welcome early-career scholars with a strong commitment to working in Indigenous communities, with a special focus on candidates who are interested in working with contemporary California Native peoples around issues of ancestral knowledge and histories of racialization.
