This past Saturday, October 25, the CMRS Center for Early Global Studies (CMRS-CEGS) co-sponsored “Living Threads: Ancestral Textile Knowledge from the Peruvian Andes,” a public program at the Fowler Museum led by Solsiré Cusicanqui (“Race in the Global Past through Native Lenses” Post Doctoral Fellow).

Master craftswomen Dorila Mendoza, María Chuquijajas, and Lucila Romero from San Miguel, Cajamarca, led a hands-on workshop in ancestral backstrap-loom weaving. More than 200 guests attended and shared enthusiastic feedback.

The storytelling, food, and, most importantly, the demonstration of centuries-old weaving techniques made for a truly memorable event, made possible in partnership with CMRS-CEGS and the “Race in the Global Past through Native Lenses” project, the Peru Consulate, and the Fowler Museum.
