Manuscripts in Arabic Script at UCLA: Where Did They Come From?

UCLA holds one of the largest groupings of Arabic, Persian, and Turkish manuscripts in the Americas, yet little is known about their provenance. This event will shed light on the sources of some of UCLA’s twenty collections of manuscripts in Arabic script.

This event will draw attention to manuscript provenance by hosting five talks from scholars working in this field, most of whom will speak directly about the UCLA collections. The event will begin with an invitation-only research session in the morning, during which a group of scholars from UCLA and beyond will spend a few hours together examining one of the less well-known collections in an effort to shed light on its background and provenance.

Register to attend in Young Research Library Special Collections

This event is co-sponsored by the UCLA CMRS Center for Early Global Studies,  Center for Near Eastern Studies, Islamic Studies Program, the UCLA Library Special Collections, and the Richard Hovannisian Endowed Chair in Modern Armenian History.
