Conference Travel Grants

The Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies offers funding in the form of travel reimbursement for UCLA graduate students to attend conferences, symposia, or professional meetings, to present research or scholarly papers on any topic in the field of Medieval and Renaissance Studies.

To apply for a grant, the student must submit a letter of request to the CMRS Director describing the conference to be attended, the name of the paper or project that will be presented, and a budget of travel expenses for which reimbursement is being requested. The maximum funding that may be requested is $1,000 and students may submit only one travel grant request per academic year. Applications must be submitted at least 2 weeks before travel departure date. Mileage in excess of 250 miles cannot be reimbursed. The number of travel grants awarded each year will depend on the amount of funding available, and the number and quality of the requests received.

During the 2015-2016 academic year, eleven travel grants were awarded which enabled students to present papers at various conferences, including the International Medieval Congress in Leeds, the Gregorian Institute of Canada Colloquium in Vancouver, the Estoria Digital Colloquium in Seville, the British Annual Shakespeare Association Annual Conference in Glasgow, the Canadian Society of Italian Studies Annual Meeting in Toronto, and the Shakespeare Association of America Annual Meeting in New Orleans.
